The Timbercrest Neighborhood Association is pursuing the National Wildlife Foundation Community Habitat Certification on behalf of the neighborhood.
On April 22, 2024, THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION REGISTERED Timbercrest Neighborhood as a Community Wildlife Habitat and recognizes this community’s commitment to preserve, enhance, restore and connect wildlife habitat. By registering with the National Wildlife Federation, this community has committed to work toward full certification as a National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat, a community where people, wildlife and plants can all flourish.
Neighbors can apply for their homes or properties in the neighborhood to be certified. Here is the link to the individual property certification. There isn't much too it and you get a pretty sign for your yard! https://www.nwf.org/Garden-For-Wildlife/Certify.aspx
A committee consisting of neighbors has been formed and the next steps include completing designated Education Goals, Outreach Goal and Administrative Goals. The certification process will take roughly a year from start to finish. Two other neighborhoods in the Knoxville are have completed this certification, as well as the overall city of Knoxville. Here is an older article on what the city has accomplished. https://tnwf.org/knoxvilles-public-lands-leadership/
If anyone has any interest in getting involved, please email the Committee Chair, Jessie Stooksbury. jessiestooks@gmail.com
