Keep swimming!
Keep Swimming
Now that school has started (The pool thinks school should start after Labor Day), our number of swimmers per day has gone down. A side effect is that the pool gets less circulation from legs kicking. When there is less circulation, algae and other problems can take hold. We are dealing with cloudiness this week because of this. The maintenance crew is all volunteer, so we can’t keep the pool open late if these problems become overwhelming.
The good news is you can help! Just get in the pool once a week to keep the water moving. It’s that simple.
The last few years, we have kept the pool open until around September 20. Our target for closing this year is September 23. That’s subject to water conditions.
Suggestions
Thank you for your suggestions this year. The suggestion sheets have been especially popular with the kids. We would like to take a little time to respond to a few of those.
Suggestion: Install a diving board. Unfortunately, Tennessee state law prevents us from installing a diving board. In 2001, the law was updated to require diving well to be 8.5 feet deep. Ours is only 8 feet. That’s not something we can change.
Suggestion: Install a water slide. The logistics and cost of installing and maintaining a water slide are more than the pool board can deal with. A water slide would require a water line to be buried from the pool house to the deep end. Other potential problems are increased water loss due to evaporation and increased insurance premiums. We have a lot of fun stuff at the pool but we won’t be adding a water slide.
Suggestion: Install an egress bar. We are working with the city building inspectors to ensure we install the correct hardware for the gate egress bar. At this point, the replacement will happen in the off season.
If you have a concern, question, or issue at the pool, contact the pool board. Here are ways you can contact us:
- Email: pool@timbercrestneighborhood.org
- On-call board member personal contact info posted on the bulletin board
- Pool phone number: (865) 297-3374
- Website contact form: https://timbercrestneighborhood.org/contact
- Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/timbercrestpool
- Leave a suggestion card in the box on sign-in table
- Talk to us in person
This contact info is also on the bulletin board and the pool website: https://timbercrestneighborhood.org/pool
Close the gate
There has been a disturbing trend of the night clean up volunteers and board finding the gate wide open with no one at the pool. Do not prop the gate open for loading and unloading. Do not leave the gate open for other members. It is your responsibility to ensure the gate is closed each time you open it.
Kid-free night
The last kid-free night was a hit. We’ll have another one on September 1, 8pm. It is a night to enjoy the pool and the camaraderie of our neighbors. 21+ please. Come hang out with your neighbors in a relaxed setting. We’ll watch the movie Heavy Metal if anyone is interested.
Events
We’ve had a great season of events so far. Family movie night on August 4 and TNA hosted Pool Karaoke Palooza have been a blast. Let us know if you have an idea for an event or want to help with planning and execution. We will probably have another family movie night and a closing party.
The events calendar, including private parties, is posted on the bulletin board and online: https://timbercrestneighborhood.org/calendar
Park Cleanup
The next park cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, from 9-11am. We really need your help with park cleanup.
Donate
The Timbercrest Pool enriches our community, increases our property value, and beautifies the neighborhood. This year we were able to replace three tables and re-roof the pool house. We are saving up for several large projects like replacing the concrete deck and resurfacing the pool interior. You might have noticed we didn’t paint this year. Your donation helps us maintain and improve this great resource. To donate visit: https://timbercrestneighborhood.org/donating
Food City gift cards
Guest passes can be earned by purchasing $100 worth of Food City gift cards from Greg Locke (865-684-3699). Gift cards are available in $25, $50, or $100 denominations. The pool earns $5 from each $100 worth of gift cards, which adds up quickly.
Survey
The pool board would like to know your opinion about the pool. One way to tell us what you think is to fill out the 2023 Timbercrest Pool Survey: https://forms.gle/2q7LACcMErd8QtVs5
Everyone is welcome to fill out the survey. We learn a lot, even from those who choose not to join the pool. Contact us for a paper survey.
