And the winners are

The results are in for First Annual Patriotic Mailbox Decorating Contest are in. Here are the results from judge David Massey.

With 14 decorated mailboxes (including the pool mailbox), Lance Drive narrowly out-mail-boxed Timbercrest Trail and Shenandoah Drive with 13 each.

We had a lot of fun, but what a tough set of contestants!

We did not miss the wonderfully understated decoration at 1714 Timber Pass --- a pair of red, white and blue baby skates set toe-to-toe on top of the mailbox --- nor the whimsical smiley face and patriotic raccoon at 5612 Timbercrest Trail. And we loved the star-spewing flower pot at 5401 Lance, the bearded Uncle Sam at 5409 Smoky Trail, and the creative use of a floppy hat at 5444 Yosemite Trail.

And the reason for the season: We were glad to see the Declaration of Independence attached to the mailbox at 5610 Timbercrest Trail.

But we were limited to three winners instead of 56, and they are:

First Place – 5424 Smoky Trail for the flag-waving stuffed animals on the mailbox and in the children’s cart.

Second Place – 5401 Shenandoah, just because you have to stand next to the mailbox to appreciate the miniature art and hear the patriotic music serenading Lady Liberty.

Third Place – 5409 Smoky Trail for a white-bearded and heavily festooned Uncle Sam.

Thank you to everyone who participlated and congratulations to all the winners!
